The service to celebrate the life of Donald L. Glisson, 79, of Corinth, MS is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Gaines Chapel United Methodist Church with burial at Wheeler Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at Gaines Chapel Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Don passed away at home in Corinth, MS on December 25, 2018 after an extended illness. Don was born on September 16, 1939 in Alcorn County, MS. His early childhood was spent in Northern Alabama, returning to Alcorn county and the Wheeler Grove community upon entering the 2nd grade. He was a graduate of Kossuth High School and of the Auto Diesel College in Nashville, TN.
He met his High School Sweetheart, Marcia Ann Walker, at Kossuth and they were married on October 27, 1956 in Booneville, MS. Don and Marcia Ann raised their family in Corinth MS. After leaving Nashville, Don was hired at the Tennessee River Pulp & Paper Mill in Counce, TN from its inception until retirement after 40 plus years. He was a member of the Corinth Masonic Lodge 116. Don had many talents including woodworking, clock building and repair, motor and engine repair. He could build or fix anything from Zero-turn lawn mowers to delicate antique clocks. He shared his knowledge as a volunteer with the Corinth Boys Club, Boy Scouts, and the American Red Cross. He loved building and flying model airplanes, relaxing at the family’s Pickwick Lake cabin or boating in his 1963 Century Resorter Classic Boat that he restored. He also enjoyed gardening, driving his tractor, and grilling for family get-togethers. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren to build and repair things.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marcia Ann Glisson of Corinth; children, Don Walker Glisson (Sarah) of Hot Springs, AR, Lisa Shelaine French (Allen) of Cordova, TN, Robin Glisson Powers (Glenn) of Fairfax, VA and James K. Glisson (Michaele) of Jackson, MS; grandchildren, Dixie Deatherage, Walker Glisson, Tyler French (Jenna), Nathan French, Savannah Powers, Elizabeth Powers, William Glisson and Joy Glisson; and great-grandchildren, Blake, Blayne and Brookleigh Deatherage and Stella, T.J. and Harper French; his special friends and caregivers, D.J. Sweeney, Willie “Topper” Surrat, Melanie Rowell and his best companion, Traveler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick A. Glisson and Lois Johnson Glisson; and grandson-in-law, Jon Deatherage and his late companion, Wolf.
Pallbearers will be: Glenn Powers, Tyler French, Nathan French, Walker Glisson, D.J. Sweeney, and Topper Surrat.
Honorary pallbearers are: Bill Glisson, Allen French, Tim Bradley, Shane Bradley, Lee Williams, Thomas Coleman, Bud Odle and James Chapel.
