The Alcorn County Circuit Clerk’s Office will be open special hours Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon for voters to cast absentee ballots in the Nov. 27 runoff election.
Deputy Circuit Clerk Crystal Starling urged voters to take the runoff election just as seriously as the Nov. 6 general election.
Starling noted that voters are set to decide three races in the runoff election Nov. 27. One of the races in the runoff election is for U.S. Senate between Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith and Democrat Mike Espy.
Another race is for circuit court judge, District 1, Place 3, between Sadie Gardner and Kelly Mims. And the third race is for chancery court judge, District 1, Place 1, between Lisa Koon and Brad Tennison.
The runoff election is needed in the three races because the candidates did not garner a majority of the votes (50 percent plus one) in the general election, Starling noted.
The general election had a large turnout with 10,431 voters, she said, adding that she hopes voters come out just as strong in the runoff.
Starling also said that people can vote in the runoff even if they did not vote in the general election.
The deadline to vote absentee in the runoff election is Saturday, Nov. 24, and the circuit clerk’s office will also be open that day from 8 a.m. to noon.
