An 18-year-old Corinth man has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and possession of a stolen firearm, according to Corinth Police.
The suspect, Tyler Gates, is charged with two separate robberies, one of which occurred July 2 and the other July 29, said Detective Sgt. Jerry Rogers.
The firearm, a .380-caliber handgun, was reported stolen earlier this year from a Corinth sporting goods store, Rogers said.
The victim in the July 29 armed robbery said he was in his yard on Douglas Street when he was approached by someone on foot who produced a gun and robbed him of $40 and a cellphone.
The victim gave the suspect’s description to Corinth Police, and officers apprehended Gates a short while later when he was seen walking down a neighboring street, Rogers said.
Corinth Police identified Gates as a suspect in the July 2 armed robbery after he was arrested for the July 29 robbery, Rogers said.
The victim in the July 2 case said he was sitting on a porch on Proper Street when someone approached him wanting to sell a speaker. The suspect then produced a handgun, took $20 and ran off, police said.
Corinth Police Detective Ramiro Mares was in charge of the investigation.
Gates remained in jail Tuesday morning on a $75,000 bond.
