By Josh Mitchell/Corinth Today

The election qualifying period for three Alcorn County School Board seats is Aug. 8-Sept. 7.

Seats for 3rd and 4th District will be on the ballot for regular six-year terms. The 5th District will be on the ballot to fill an unexpired term of about two years.

Those who want to qualify as a school board candidate must obtain 50 signatures from registered voters in the district they are running for, said Crystal Starling with the circuit clerk’s office.

The petitions are available at the Alcorn County Circuit Clerk’s Office in the courthouse or the secretary of state’s website, Starling said.

School board candidates must reside in the district they are running for, be a registered voter and have a high school diploma or equivalent, she added.

School board races are non-partisan, and there is no fee to qualify as a candidate.
