Tuesday is the final registration deadline for families to receive gifts for children from The Lighthouse Foundation’s Toy Store.
Registration will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon at The Lighthouse Foundation, 1103 S. Johns St., Corinth.
In order for children from infants to 18 to receive toys, clothes and other items, families need to register in advance, said Lenay Williams with The Lighthouse Foundation.
To register, people need a photo ID, proof of Alcorn County residence, children’s birth certificates, Social Security cards and a $5 registration fee, which can be paid anytime before Dec. 7.
The Lighthouse started the Toy Store more than 20 years ago, and the event allows families to come to the Foundation and shop for gifts in the gym for no cost.
This year, the Toy Store event will be on Dec. 7 throughout the day at the Lighthouse Foundation.
People from the community are also encouraged to donate new or gently used toys and clothing, including baby items. People can drop off donations in the mornings after 8:30 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Donations need to be made before Dec. 5.
Volunteers are also needed the day of the event. Lighthouse Director Gary Caveness said there are typically around 300 volunteers for the Toy Store and that it is a smooth, organized event.
It is estimated that about 400 to 700 families will be served by the Toy Store with about 1,500 to 2,000 children benefiting. Thanks to contributions, the project could have a budget of around $100,000, said Caveness.
The community is “awesome” and has always stepped up to support the Toy Store, Caveness added.
Williams said the entire gym of the Lighthouse Foundation is converted into a large Toy Store with clothing and other items.
Volunteers must attend one of the following meeting dates: Dec. 4 at noon; Dec. 4, 6 p.m.; or Dec. 5 at 6 p.m.
