ACE Power now has a new tool to allow customers to report power outages via text message.

Members can simply text OUT to 85700.

If the cellphone number is registered with the member’s account number, an outage ticket will automatically be created and the customer will get a confirmation text with an outage ticket number.

All members with cellphones registered on their accounts have already been auto-enrolled in the new notification system.

Customers who do not have cellphones registered with ACE can sign up for notifications by calling ACE or registering through www.ace-power.com. Customers must have their account numbers to sign up for notifications, and they can manage multiple accounts on the same phone.

ACE urges its members to store the code number 85700 as a contact in their cellphones.

“We know that during a power outage, the first question our members have is, ‘Does ACE know that my power is out?'” said Sean McGrath, ACE’s chief financial officer. “We want to make things as easy as possible for our members to notify us if their power is out.

“With this technology, we are able to capture a large amount of information into our outage system at a very rapid rate,” says McGrath. “The more information we can gather, the faster our response time is in restoring power. As more information is input into our system, we start getting a better indication of the scope of the outage and the devices that need repair.”

Customers can still call ACE at 287-4402 to report an outage and use the automated voice system, but this is not the most efficient method.
