A female inmate who was found unresponsive at the Alcorn County Jail has passed away, said Coroner Jay Jones.
Bridget Marlar, 29, passed away Sept. 6 at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth, Jones said.
The cause of death was cardiopulmonary arrest, but it is unknown what caused that to happen, Jones added.
Marlar’s body underwent an autopsy at the state crime lab in Pearl, which is standard procedure in cases such as this.
There is no evidence of foul play, Jones added.
Marlar was found unresponsive at the county jail in the early morning hours of Aug. 27. One or more inmates alerted jail staff of Marlar’s condition.
Jail staff performed CPR on Marlar before an ambulance arrived to transport her, Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell said.
There was no evidence that anything happened at the county jail to cause Marlar to have a problem, Caldwell said.
The investigation has been turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
MBI has not responded to questions from Corinth Today on the matter.
Marlar did not have any apparent health problems, Jones said.
It could take a couple of months to get a full autopsy report from the crime lab, Jones said, adding that there could be toxicology reports.
Marlar had been on life support at the hospital prior to passing away, Jones said.
She was in jail on a city shoplifting charge and had a warrant hold on her from Union County, Caldwell said.
That is so sad I wonder if she was really guilty or not .and if she left kids behind .maybe she has been saved and is now with our lord and saviour ..r I p bridget marlar
