A murder suspect’s mother and the Corinth police chief are at odds over a surveillance video from the crime scene.

The mother, Mary Cummings of Corinth, said she saw about a 30-second segment of the video and that her son is not on it.

But Police Chief Ralph Dance said the mother cannot say her son is not on the video “because you can’t identify him off the video.”

The chief added, “Her son kept his head down the whole time.”

There is other evidence that ties her son, Micah Bostic, 24, to the crime, Dance said. He would not say what that evidence is but said, “We are not operating off of that video with her son being the suspect.”

Bostic was arraigned Thursday in Corinth Municipal Court on a capital murder charge. Mapco clerk Kris Ledlow, 43, was shot multiple times Monday morning and died shortly after at the hospital, police say.

Cummings said one of the suspects in the video is clear but the other is not.

“The other guy was kind of blurred, but every mother knows her child,” Cummings told Corinth Today. “That is not my son in that video. It is not, and I just wanted to say that. Justice will prevail.”

The chief asked how the mother can say whether it is her son or not if the video is blurred.

While Cummings said the video was blurry of one suspect, she said, “every mother knows her child.”

However, the chief said that is not true either because he has showed pictures to other mothers who could not identify their children.

“When she asked to see the video I told her, ‘You can’t identify the second person off the video,’” the chief said.

Dance added that Bostic’s mom is “not being forthcoming” and said he understands that she is grieving.

He said he wants to defend his department for putting together a good case.

The other suspect, Brooklyn Traylor, 17, is also charged with capital murder. Police say Traylor is allegedly the one who pulled the trigger.

Cummings spoke with Corinth Today after her son’s arraignment.

“I’m sorry that the whole thing happened,” Cummings said. “I’m sorry for the family that lost their mother, friend. I’m sorry for the other family that had to turn their son in. But most of all I’m sorry that my son has been accused of being involved in this.”

She added that her son just got out of prison a couple of months ago and paid his time.
