Saturday at noon is the deadline to register to vote in Alcorn County for the March 8 presidential primary election.

The Alcorn County Circuit Clerk’s Office is open extended hours this week until 7 p.m. to allow people to register for the election, said Kalee Smith, deputy circuit clerk.

The circuit clerk’s office will also be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday to allow people to register, Smith noted.

There are 27,064 registered voters in Alcorn County, according to the circuit clerk’s office. However, some of them may be inactive due to out-of-date addresses, said Heather Boyer, deputy clerk.

To register, people need to fill out a form at the circuit clerk’s office and be of legal voting age.

There has been an uptick in the number of people registering in recent days leading up to the deadline, Boyer said.

People have mainly been registering during the normal business hours, Smith said.
