A man was taken away by ambulance right after he was released from the Alcorn County Detention Center on Friday.

The man, Michael Cameron Marsh, 39, had been in jail on a DUI (other) charge and had just bonded out. Corinth Today was present when the incident occurred and saw Marsh on the ground just outside the door of the detention center.

His mother and bail bondsman were trying to help him, and jail officials also responded.

An ambulance and fire truck arrived on scene shortly after, and Marsh was put on a stretcher and transported.

His mom, Elaine Hallmark, said Marsh was “fine” when he first walked out of the jail but then “just started seizing.”

She added, “It was a really bad seizure. I’ve never seen anybody have a seizure. I thought he was dying, and that’s my son.”

Jail Administrator Betty Strickland said Marsh was going home, and “he just fell out.”

Asked if Marsh had any medical problems while he was in the jail, Strickland said, “Don’t know.”

She said she did not know what happened to him when he left the jail Friday, saying, “I was not here,” adding, “I’m just glad he was on his way home. He had bonded out and everything.”

Strickland said she did not know if Marsh was on medication while at the jail.

“I have not had any problem with him about his medicine or his health,” Strickland said. “Had no issues at all.”

Jail nurse Lee Holder responded when Marsh was on the ground outside the detention center.

But Holder said she did not know what kind of medical condition Marsh was having.

“All I can tell you is that he had already been released,” Holder said.

Holder also said she could not say whether Marsh was on medication or if he had medical conditions during his stay at the jail, saying that is “restricted health information.”

However, Holder did say that she thinks Marsh was “stable” when he left in the ambulance.
