It is unknown if the fire suppression equipment at Back Yard Burgers was working properly after a grease fire occurred there this morning, an official told Corinth Today.

“I don’t know if it malfunctioned or if it went off and didn’t put it out,” said Corinth Fire Department Capt. Chris Duncan.

Fire suppression equipment at restaurants is supposed to be inspected at least annually, Duncan added.

“They are required to have a company come do it,” Duncan said.

The fire at Back Yard Burgers on South Harper Road was a small grease fire that occurred in one of the cookers, Duncan said.

“The fire was still going when we got there,” he said.

Workers attempted to put it out with a fire extinguisher but were unable to do so, Duncan said.

The fire department put out the fire with the extinguisher.

No one was injured, and the building did not have any damage, Duncan said.

Back Yard Burgers could not be reached for comment by phone.
