The Corinth/Alcorn Industrial Park on Monday was certified as AT&T Fiber Ready, which could help attract jobs, officials said.

The designation allows local economic development officials to stress the presence of high-speed, fiber Internet services in the industrial park when companies are looking for places to locate, according to AT&T.

“This Fiber Ready designation is a way to help our partners in economic development tell the story of fiber availability in this area,” said Mayo Flynt, president of AT&T Mississippi.

The announcement was made at the Northeast Community College Corinth branch.

The Corinth/Alcorn Industrial Park was the first place in the state to receive the Fiber Ready designation, Flynt noted.

He praised local elected officials for adopting policies that allow AT&T to invest and create jobs.

From 2012 to 2014, AT&T invested about $950 million in the state, Flynt added.

“That investment is not always obvious” Flynt said. “A lot of it is below the ground.”

Corinth Mayor Tommy Irwin said the Fiber Ready designation for the industrial park is a “great day.”

Alcorn County Board of Supervisors President Jimmy Tate Waldon said it provides another “tool” to attract companies and jobs to the industrial park.

“Fiber Ready means our park has high-capacity fiber capabilities in place that can be delivered to existing and potential businesses,” Waldon said.

Gary Chandler, president of The Alliance, said the designation will indeed be helpful when it comes to discussions with business prospects.

“Essentially, what this does is it arms my group with an additional tool in our toolbox when we’re marketing sites and buildings in this industrial park to potential clients,” Chandler said.
