The city of Corinth Street Department is keeping a close eye on the winter storm that seems to be headed this way.
Motorists should stay off the roads if possible if heavy winter weather hits the area, an official said.
“There is no sense in getting out if you don’t absolutely have to,” city of Corinth Street Commissioner Philip Verdung told Corinth Today on Thursday morning.
Forecasts call for possible snow accumulation of between 2 and 4 inches Friday.
The street department has a truckload of rock salt to treat roads, Verdung said. Moreover, he said some of the rock salt will be distributed to first responder agencies so they can get in and out of their facilities.
The street department also has road brine and a sand and salt mixture to treat the roads.
The road brine will prevent the snow from binding to the concrete and asphalt and make it easier for street crews to plow away the snow or melt it with rock salt.
The sand and salt will provide traction and help melt the snow.
Crews are also sharpening chainsaws in case there are high wind gusts that down trees and limbs, Verdung added.
The first wave of the storm will be significant rainfall, Verdung noted. The department is checking trouble spots in the city’s drainage canals, bridges and culverts in preparation for the storm, he said.
