Jackie Cooksey is running for the District 5 Alcorn County supervisor seat as a Republican.
Cooksey has two opponents in the race — Mark Coombs and incumbent Jimmy Tate Waldon, who are both independent candidates.
Cooksey has worked in the landscaping business for 25 years and owns two businesses — Magnolia Stump Grinding and J&J Landscaping.
He said the primary reason he is running for the District 5 supervisor seat is to help the people. Sheriff’s office deputies need salary increases since they put their lives on the line every day, he said.
Fixing the roads would also be a top priority, he said.
Cooksey said he would like to see more done to support the animal shelter. The animal shelter facility needs to be upgraded or a new one needs to be built, he added. The animals need to be taken care of, he said.
Cooksey said voters should support him because he has dealt with people for much of his life in business. Moreover, he said he is very capable of managing the county’s budget. He said he has always had to budget and put three children through college.
