Crystal Starling is running for Alcorn County circuit clerk as an independent.
Starling has one opponent in the race — independent candidate Jeremy Glidewell.
Starling released the below statement in regard to her candidacy:
“I have had the honor of working in the circuit clerk’s office for 15 years. As the chief deputy clerk and office manager, I have gained the knowledge and experience needed to fill the position of circuit clerk. It is a privilege to issue a marriage license, be a vital part of the criminal and civil judicial system, and to hold every federal, state and county election.
“The circuit clerk’s office belongs to the citizens of Alcorn County. If elected as your next circuit clerk, I will serve and hold myself accountable to each of you. My staff and I will remain courteous and professional while continuing our forward progress.
“It has been my responsibility to oversee all technology advancements for the past 15 years. I am proud to say Alcorn County was the first county in the state of Mississippi to use electronic pollbooks. In a recent statewide ballot box examination, Alcorn County had no discrepancies or crossover votes due to the electronic pollbooks. If I am elected, I pledge Alcorn County will remain a leader in technology —my next goal being electronic filing for all criminal and civil court records without any cost to Alcorn County.
My love for Alcorn County, our community and the circuit clerk’s office is the reason that I wish to be your next circuit clerk.”
