The Salt Dog is ready, the chainsaws are fueled and the brine is prepared.

If anything, the Corinth Street Department is “over prepared” for the possible snow that may hit Corinth overnight, said Construction Work Supervisor John Michael Tucker.

Sunshine warmed the gravel parking lot of the street department Monday morning, but there is expected to be a very different weather picture for the local area in the coming hours.

The National Weather Service predicts that rain and snow is likely between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m with snow also likely after 2 a.m.

The low is expected to be around 23 degrees with snow accumulation of less than 1 inch possible.

Tucker noted that the street department is now equipped with a Salt Dog machine that disburses salt on slick roadways and bridges.

The street department will focus on main roadways such as access for the fire department, police department and hospital and then treat other areas, he said.

High temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday are only expected to be around 33 degrees with a low Wednesday night of 15.

Temperatures should start warming on Thursday with a high of 41.
