It is unclear if Kimberly-Clark’s decision to save jobs in Wisconsin will impact the Corinth plant as the company goes through a global restructuring program.
The company in January announced that it was “proposing to exit approximately 10 manufacturing facilities over the next three years across our global footprint.”
Kimberly-Clark in Corinth has about 160 company employees and another 140 contract employees.
Earlier this year, Kimberly-Clark announced plans to close a Wisconsin plant, but now hundreds of jobs in that state will be saved after a deal was struck between the company and economic development officials.
The company agreed to preserve 388 Wisconsin manufacturing jobs after reaching a five-year agreement for up to $28 million in tax incentives.
“We have been working diligently over the last few months to ensure that Kimberly-Clark, a company with a long legacy in a key Wisconsin industry, will continue to have a strong presence in the Fox Valley,” said Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in a statement. “We are also pleased that Kimberly-Clark is making the commitment to continue to invest and grow in our state for years to come.”
Corinth Today in January asked a Kimberly-Clark spokesman if any information could be released regarding the future of the Corinth facility and received the following response: “Accomplishing the goals of company’s global restructuring program will be challenging, and there are difficult decisions that accompany the program.
“The company will not provide specifics on the status of any of our mills beyond what is detailed in its recent earnings press release, until final decisions are made and announced. The timing of those announcements will be determined by the needs of the business and appropriate consultation and/or negotiations with unions, works councils and other labor stakeholders.”
