U.S. 72 West Crash Leaves Vehicle With Major Damage Wednesday Night

Extent of Injuries, Crash Cause Unclear

A crash resulting in major damage to at least one vehicle occurred Wednesday night on U.S. Highway 72 West in the Union Center area.

A wrecked SUV on the side of the highway next to the westbound lanes had severe front-end damage, and the airbags deployed.

The crash happened shortly before 8 p.m., about a quarter-mile west of the Dollar General store in the Union Center area and about eight miles east of Walnut.

Details on the cause of the crash and extent of injuries were not immediately available.

A large number of emergency officials were at the scene, including volunteer firefighters, Magnolia Ambulance, the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
