Coach Larry Calhoun, the star of the Move to Learn exercise break videos, visited students at Alcorn Central Elementary School on Wednesday.
Fitness breaks increase students’ ability to learn, according to the Bower Foundation and the Mississippi Department of Education’s Office of Healthy Schools.
“Growing children need several minutes of physical activity every day, not only to aid in their overall health but to increase their cognitive and social development as well,” said Alcorn School District registered nurse Amber Butler.
Calhoun used to have a bad attitude and make poor grades as a student but changed his ways because of the teachers in his life. He praised local teachers and said they go above and beyond for the students.
