A vehicle crashed into a light pole and rolled over at the bottom of a hill Monday afternoon in Alcorn County, and the teen driver went to the hospital, an official said.

The crash occurred southwest of Biggersville on County Road 515 near the intersection of County Road 534 and was reported at about 2:20 p.m.

The male teen driver was the only person in the vehicle and is a junior firefighter with the Southwest Volunteer Fire Department, said Kerry Cummings, Southwest’s chief.

The teen was transported to the hospital and was conscious and talking after the wreck, Cummings added.

It appeared sparks were emitted after the light pole was struck, igniting a grass fire, Cummings said. The grass fire blackened part of the hillside and was extinguished as it reached the edge of the woods.

The light pole was leaning after the crash, and ACE Power responded to assist.

Biggersville and Pisgah volunteer firefighters responded as well as the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office.
