Corinth Slugburger Champ to Defend Coney Island Fourth of July Hotdog Title

By Josh Mitchell/Corinth Today

Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, who has won the World Slugburger Eating Championship in Corinth three years in a row, will defend his title at the annual Fourth of July hotdog eating contest Wednesday in Coney Island, N.Y.

Chestnut won his 10th Mustard Belt last year in Coney Island and set a new contest record when he ate 72 hotdogs during the Nathan’s Famous International Hotdog Eating Contest.

About week after winning the hotdog eating contest last year, Chestnut was in Corinth to defend his slugburger title. He was successful. Chestnut ate 35 slugburgers with pickle, mustard, onion and bun in 10 minutes.

He consumed 41 slugburgers the year before, just two short of the world record of 43.

Chestnut always has nice comments about the Corinth event.

The hotdog eating contest will be aired on ESPN2 at 11 a.m. Wednesday.  It will re-air at 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
