A race has developed for the Ward 1 alderman seat in Corinth.
Incumbent Republican Alderman Andrew “Bubba” Labas will face independent candidate Chris Wilson.
Wilson, a nurse anesthetist at Magnolia Regional Health Center, said he is seeking a seat on the Corinth Board of Aldermen because, “the roads are pitiful and the crime rate is going up.”
Labas, a certified financial planner, is seeking his third term on the board of aldermen. He was not immediately available for comment Wednesday.
The positions of mayor, police chief and six aldermen will be on the ballot.
So far, the Ward 1 seat is the only contest. Only the incumbents have filed for the other open seats.
The deadline to file is June 8, said City Clerk Vickie Roach.
The primary election is set for Aug. 7, and the general election is Oct. 9.
All of the terms are four years.
