The process is under way to move Kossuth High School Principal Travis Smith into a new position in the Alcorn School District.
Smith has been principal for three years at KHS, and the plan is to move him into the position of curriculum coordinator for the school district, said Superintendent Larry Mitchell.
Mitchell said Smith’s reassignment does not have to be approved by the school board and is an administrative decision.
Smith has been a “good academic principal,” Mitchell added.
Sam Roberts, who is currently the Kossuth Middle School principal, will be the new Kossuth High School principal if everything moves ahead as planned. Alex Bondurant, who is an assistant principal at KMS, would be the new principal there.
The changes would take effect July 1.
Smith said he is happy about the proposed job change and said it is a great opportunity to do a lot of work for the district. Smith will now work in the district office but said he always prefers to be around the students.
Alcorn Central Middle School Assistant Principal Marshal Johnson is going to Pontotoc City Schools, Mitchell said. There has been no decision on who may fill that position.
