Shiloh National Military Park will host National Park Day 2018 on Saturday at the Corinth Battlefield Unit.
Sponsored by the Civil War Trust, this annual event brings together Civil War enthusiasts from around the country who volunteer their time and energy to help preserve our nation’s battlefields.
Rangers and volunteers will be improving the grounds of portions of the Union earthworks. This site selected for the Park Day project was part of the Union advance on the Confederate earthworks during the Siege of Corinth in May of 1862.
The clean-up will include removing non-historic trash items such as glass bottles, tin cans and bricks. Volunteers will sign in at the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center starting at 8:30 am on Saturday. At 9:00 am the volunteer crew will caravan to the historic site and begin the Park Day project.
“This volunteer event will help restore the battlefield landscape to enhance interpretation and use of the site,” said Superintendent Dale Wilkerson.
To register, please call 662-287-9273, or stop by the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center.
Volunteers should bring work gloves and wear closed-toe footwear and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. All volunteers will receive free Park Day 2018 T-shirts courtesy of the Civil War Trust.
Severe weather will cancel the event. For more information visit www.nps.gov/shil.
