A Biggersville house was destroyed in a fire early Sunday, an official said.
Volunteer firefighters were paged out at about 1 a.m. to the house fire at 460 County Road 513, said Kerry Cummings with Biggersville Fire & Rescue.
Two Biggersville firefighters entered the one-story brick house to try to stop the blaze from spreading, but once the flames reached the roof it was too late, Cummings said.
One of the firefighters who made entry was transported by ambulance to Magnolia Regional Health Center for smoke inhalation, Cummings said. The firefighter has since been released from the hospital.
It appeared that the man who lived at the home was in bed and heard a pop sound from a bedroom. He apparently investigated the sound and discovered the house was filled with smoke.
He called 911 and moved his truck from the carport, initial reports indicate.
Biggersville firefighters arrived on scene quickly within 10 to 15 minutes and were assisted by firefighters from Glen, Kossuth and Southwest fire departments. The sheriff’s office also responded.
There was no determination on the cause of the fire.
