Thirty of Mississippi’s 82 counties had a higher average weekly wage than Alcorn County in the third quarter of 2017, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
The third quarter average weekly wage in Alcorn County was $673, a decline of about $1 compared to the prior year.

Mississippi had the lowest average weekly wage nationally in the third quarter of 2017.
Mississippi’s average weekly wage was $729, which was down 1.4 percent, or $10, from a year before.
The average weekly wage in Tippah County was $605; Tishomingo County, $607; and Prentiss County, $589 for the third quarter.
Alcorn County had 793 employment establishments with 13,920 jobs. Employment was up by 244 jobs, or 1.8 percent, in Alcorn County in September 2017 compared to the prior year.
The federal wage data covers about 97 percent of civilian employment but could exclude family farms, sole ownerships and railroad workers.
