IUKA – Three people have been taken into custody and another is in a Tupelo hospital following a two-county late-night pursuit Thursday that ended with gunfire.
Tishomingo County Sheriff John Daugherty said his deputies were notified by law enforcement agencies in Alcorn County late Feb. 1 that a pursuit was entering the northwestern portion of Tishomingo County.
Tishomingo deputies spotted the suspect vehicle when it came out onto County Road 302 in Tishomingo County and stopped the car and made contact with the driver. As the deputy was attempting to open the driver’s door, the driver attempted to drive away, hitting the deputy with the car. At the same time, deputies opened fire on the vehicle.
The vehicle came to rest a short distance up the road. The driver fled the scene on foot. The female passenger was injured and airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Around 1 p.m. Friday, Tishomingo County authorities served a search warrant at a Burnsville area apartment complex. At the same time, three individuals were located and detained. Investigators believe the three suspects were either involved in the pursuit or assisted those involved.
Daugherty said more information, including names and charges, will be released Monday.
