Services to celebrate the life of Janeva Newcomb Elam, 78, will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Lancaster and Bro. Tim Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in Jumpertown.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home.
Janeva died on Saturday January 27, 2018 at her son’s residence. She was born on February 28, 1939 to the late James Newcomb and Thaddeus Strickland. She was a graduate of Farmington High School and was the valedictorian of her class. She worked for Corinth Machinery, was office manager at Liberty National and a mortgage loan originator at Bancorp South. She was a founding member of Pinecrest Baptist Church and eventually became a member of Concord Baptist Church in Jumpertown. She had a servant heart and made sure others were taken care of first. She always had a smile on her face and enjoyed being with her family. She was especially proud of her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her late husband of 58 years, Leonard David Elam; and a brother, Jim Newcomb.
Janeva is survived by her son, Sandy Elam (Sue) of Corinth, Candy Elam Berry (Doug) of Memphis, grandchildren, Ellen Martin (Andrew) of Wilmore, KY, Jeffery Ferrell (Tracy) of Montpelier, VT, Sydney Berry and Jay Berry of Memphis; great-grandchildren, David, Matthew, Michael, Joshua, Benjamen, Emma, Branaman; sister-in-law, Liz Newcomb, sister, Louise Sagley; brothers, Jerry Newcomb (Ella Mae), Everett Newcomb (Carol); her loving caretakers at Country Cottage, and a host of other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in honor of Janeva Elam to Sharing Hearts Alzheimer’s Association at 501 Main St. Corinth, MS 38834.
