Judd Chapman was a student in the Alcorn School District from first grade to 12th grade and now serves on the school board.
Chapman, a Kossuth High School graduate, was appointed to the school board Monday night.
School board members voted unanimously to appoint Chapman to the board until January of 2019.
There will be an election for the six-year term in November.
Chapman was appointed to fill the seat that was vacant due to the resignation of board President Randy Wilbanks in December.
Chapman, who lives in the Theo area, is an Ole Miss graduate with a degree in banking and finance. He manages Ripley Insurance Agency, and his family owns Chapman’s restaurant in Alcorn County.
He has five grandchildren who live in the Alcorn School District. He said he has been blessed and wants to give back to the community.
Chapman thanked the school board for putting “faith” in him and said two other very qualified people had put their hat in the ring for the appointment. Chapman said he will do his best and serve with “honesty and integrity.”
Board member Ricky Fields was named the new president of the school board.
