A 19-year-old Alcorn County woman has been indicted on a charge of aggravated DUI in a 2016 crash near Kossuth that killed a Glen teen who was in the same vehicle, official documents show.

Steelie S. Mincy of Glen was operating the 2003 Cadillac Escalade when the one-vehicle crash occurred more than a year ago. Mincy was 18 years old at the time of the crash.

Landon Blake Baswell, 19, of Glen, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the crash scene, according to the highway patrol. Troopers responded to the wreck on State Highway 2 near Kossuth at about 4:45 a.m. on Nov. 6, 2016.

It appeared Mincy was traveling east when she apparently lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, collided into a ditch and overturned several times, the highway patrol said.

Mincy was airlifted with life-threatening injuries.

Baswell was a student at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville.

Chemical analysis showed that Mincy was under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or had 0.08 percent weight volume or more of alcohol in her blood while she operated the vehicle, the indictment charges.

Mincy is currently out of jail on bond. Aggravated DUI carries a penalty of between five and 25 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections, state statute says.

One Response so far.

My question is, who bought the minors the alcohol? Shouldn’t whoever be charged as well?
