An 11-year-old Alcorn County boy was recently selected to participate in the Junior All-American Games in Mesa, Ariz.
John Kendrick Grisham, who attends Alcorn Central Middle School, traveled to Arizona last month to play baseball with youth from across the United States and Canada.
Grisham qualified to take part in the Junior All-American Games after he was scouted and nominated by a coach.
The event took place at Sloan Park in Mesa, the home of the Chicago Cubs’ spring training facilities.
Grisham was the only player selected from Mississippi, Tennessee or Alabama in any age bracket. The brackets ranged from 9-years-old to high school, and Grisham was in the 12-year-old division.
There were players from 16 states and Canada, and many college and minor league baseball scouts attended.
Grisham’s team was a finalist and was awarded a large ring, scouting reports, Major League Baseball reports and an invitation to attend future Junior All-American events.
