A man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside of North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka on Saturday, Tishomingo County Coroner Mack Wilemon said.

The man walked into the hospital and shot himself with a handgun while he was in the emergency department at about 2 p.m., Wilemon added.

The death has been ruled a suicide, the coroner said.

Wilemon did not have information on why the man may have shot himself at the hospital.

Corinth Today has chosen not to release the man’s name or age at this time due to the sensitive nature of the situation.

The Iuka Police Department said the matter was still under investigation and that efforts were underway to notify family.

A spokeswoman for North Mississippi Medical Center said she was working on getting information.

Wow. This is really sad. I think people should try to get the motive behind his actions.
