First grade children in the Corinth and Alcorn school districts had fun this week taking part in a learning program that allowed them to play drums.

The program was offered through the local nonprofit organization LINK (Lead, Inspire, Nurture, Kids). It has been offered to local children for a number of years, said Myra Strom, LINK coordinator.

“These children really enjoy this program,” Strom said.

Corinth Elementary Principal Brian Knippers said the program provides the children with a fun learning activity.

“LINK is a great organization that has a long history of supporting the things we do for children,” Knippers said.

LINK obtains grant funds to bring the program to the local schools, Strom said. The drumming activity is led by Nina Rodriguez of San Antonio, Texas. She said the interactive program encourages children to embrace differences, work together and understand that each voice has value.
