A 34-year-old Corinth man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a man Saturday night, Police Chief Ralph Dance said.

Domonick Thompson of Rosedale Street has been charged with the murder of Donald Taylor, 35, 1406 Allen St., Dance said.

Taylor’s body was in the road at the corner of Meigg and Penn streets, Alcorn County Coroner Jay Jones said.

Thompson was being held on a $500,000 bond Monday and also had a hold placed on him by the Mississippi Department of Corrections for an alleged probation violation. Thompson was also charged with possession of a weapon by convicted felon, Dance said.

Thompson was taken into custody at a local gas station a short time after the incident. The police officers did an “outstanding” job quickly apprehending the suspect, Dance added.

The incident was reported to 911 at about 10:50 p.m. Saturday.
