Everyone involved in a two-vehicle wreck involving an SUV and an 18-wheeler on U.S. Highway 45 South on Tuesday night managed to avoid serious injury, an official said.

The wreck occurred by the Highway 45 Truck Stop at around 10:15 p.m.

There were two adults and two small children in the SUV. One of the children was a 1-year-old boy who was calm at the wreck scene. The other child was a 4-year-old girl who clutched a stuffed animal at the wreck scene.

It was undetermined what happened in the crash, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol was investigating the wreck, said Kerry Cummings with Biggersville Fire & Rescue.

Cummings said everyone appeared to be wearing a seatbelt in the crash, and he said seatbelts save lives. The baby was strapped into a child’s car seat.

Both front airbags deployed in the SUV, which had heavy front-end damage.
