A Kossuth High School senior was awarded a $500 college scholarship from the Mississippi Association of Supervisors on Monday.

Caitlin Oakman was presented the check and award certificate by the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors.

Chancery Clerk Greg Younger said the board was “very proud” to present the scholarship to Oakman, who plans to attend Northeast Mississippi Community College.

The Mississippi Association of Supervisors scholarship awards college money to youth who are related to county employees or retired county employees.

Oakman is the granddaughter of Sherry Oakman, who retired in 2015 from the Alcorn County Tax Assessor’s Office.

Oakman is the second recipient of the county supervisors scholarship with last year’s winner being Blake Burnett, a graduate of Alcorn Central High School and grandson of former county schools employee Linda Burnett.
