A fire destroyed a home near Kossuth on Sunday afternoon.

Kossuth Fire Chief Adron Hodum said the house was a complete loss. It is unclear what caused the blaze, but it appeared to have started in the carport area.

The homeowner is David Green, and he was apparently working in the yard when the fire started. It appears a dog could not be located after the fire started.

The fire was at a house on County Road 627, which is just off of State Highway 2 and northeast of Kossuth. The Kossuth Fire Department and other authorities responded to the blaze at around 4 p.m.

The Kossuth Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from Wenasoga, Biggersville and Southwest Alcorn.

A Biggersville firefighter received minor burn injuries to an arm during the fire. It appeared the injured firefighter may have been trying to collect some family photos for the homeowner when a wall collapsed.

The house fire was fully involved when firefighters arrived on scene.
