Alcorn County and other entities can apply for federal funds to develop recreational trails in the community.
Trail projects can get federal funding of 80 percent.
The Recreational Trails Program is a Federal Highways program administered by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks.
The Alcorn supervisors received notification of the program on Monday night during their regular meeting.
It is unclear if Alcorn County will apply for any of the funds.
The program helps develop and maintain trails for motorized and non-motorized recreational use.
The funds are allocated through a competitive grant process. Funds can be awarded to nonprofit conservation organizations, cities, counties and other government entities.
The application deadline is March 9 at 4 p.m.
