Lesley Raines started out at the “very bottom” of his profession but worked diligently to become the business owner he is today.
After he got laid off from a factory when he was around 20 years old, he took work as a “grunt man” hauling tools and picking up scraps in the carpet business.
Today, Raines is the owner of Lesley’s Floor Designs, 2500 S. Harper Road, across from the Malco Theater.
“We’re a full-service flooring store, from the purchasing of the product through the installation in the home,” Raines told Corinth Today during an interview at his business.
He has been in business in Corinth for 25 years, and his knowledgeable staff can help customers when it comes to selecting the right type of flooring. Inside the business, customers can find an impressive number of flooring displays in an inviting atmosphere.
People with various levels of income should be able to find a flooring choice that meets their needs, Raines added.
“We try to have a product for every lifestyle that’s out there,” Raines said, adding that he carries everything from designer carpet to other material that is $5.99 per square yard.
Lesley’s Floor Designs offers the “gamut” in flooring types including carpet, laminate, ceramic tiles, marble, porcelain, natural tones, floating vinyl tile and others.
“We’ll have flooring for every room in the home,” Raines said. “We have a great selection of stuff.”
Decorators bring their clients to his store because of the large selection of flooring he carries, he noted.
Choosing the right type of flooring is a major decision, Raines noted. Once flooring is put down it is hard to replace it. Moreover, flooring is something people walk on almost every day.
“Flooring is really one of the most critical things that you can really think about to purchase for your home,” Raines added.
When it comes to flooring today, people want a product that is low-maintenance, long lasting and very stain resistant, Raines said.
“People live fast today— they have a lot to do,” Raines said. “They don’t want to have to take care of a floor all the time.”
Flooring is such as big decision that many people think about it for a year before deciding, Raines said. Customers can feel comfortable in knowing that his flooring products are high quality and come with a warranty.
The stain protection technology for carpet is more advanced than it has ever been, he said. For instance, he said a new type of carpet has a polymer back that prevents stains from soaking through the carpet into the flooring pad. This keeps the stain from reappearing later. Remember if you are struggling with carpet stains, products from sites like https://www.bissell.com/carpet-and-floor-cleaning-formulas will help you quickly and effectively remove these.
Carpet today is also softer and has more of a silk feel, Raines said, adding that pet-resistant carpets are popular.
His business offers flooring installation, and Raines himself came from an installation background.
Lesley’s Floor Designs mainly does residential work but has also done some light commercial locally, such as ACE Power, the water department, the water treatment plant and the sewage treatment plant.
“We’re always trying to expand our customer base,” Raines said, noting that the younger home buyers are his future clients.
Women mainly make the home flooring decisions, he said, adding, “The woman is the driving force in my industry.”
Lesley’s Floor Designs carries a large selection of carpet brands, such as Shaw, Mohawk, Beaulieu, Dream Weaver and Stanton. It also carries Anderson and Mannington hardwood.
Lesley’s Floor Designs keeps a large amount of inventory, and also has astroturf that people may want to use on their porches, decks and boat ramps. Porcelain tiles for decks and patios are also available, and water-resistant, click-together laminate flooring is also a big item.
In addition, the business carries a “huge selection” of area rugs and just received a shipment of about 10 handwoven rugs from India. Raines noted that his business is starting to handle some higher-end wool rugs.
There have been “astronomical” changes in flooring since he started in the business 25 years ago. All of the choices for people can be “overwhelming,” but the staff at Lesley’s Floor Designs can help the customer, Raines said.
