Funeral services for Van Smith will be at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, January 25, 2017 at McPeters Funeral Home Chapel with G.W. Childs officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery near Yellow Creek, MS.
Mr. Smith died at his residence on Thursday, January 21, 2016. He was born on April 25, 1929 to the late C.D. and Bertha Bullard Smith. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force, was a machinist at Southbridge, loved gardening, training bird dogs, and was an avid bird hunter.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Smith; four brothers, Virl, Vandell, Virgil and Verlon Smith; and three sisters, Viola Simmons, Vadie Pittman, and Vernice Coffman.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Ferguson Smith; two sons, Van Wade Amith and Ernie Smith and wife Marie; two daughters, Kim Tomlinson and husband Billy and Jana McCoy and wife Mike; three brothers, Vernon Smith and wife Katherine, Vester Smith and wife Ann and Varnell Smith and wife Sue; two sisters, Verline Strickland and husband Junior and Vera Reed; eleven grandchildren, Billy and Sissy Tomlinson, Brent, Van and Dale McCoy, and Devan, Preston, Braden and Hannah Smith, Andy Parker and Dana McClain; nine great-grandchildren; a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 24th from 6:00 P.M. till 9:00 P.M. and from Noon till service time on Monday.
